So, for the most part I think I'm a pretty pleasant person and I don't think I complain very much, except when you mess with my kids!
London hadn't been feeling well... fever, green nose...you know the drill. Well, after a sleepless night I figured it was her ears. I called my pediatrician's office, which thank goodness was open on Saturday, and got an appointment for little miss London with the doctor working that day.
I gave her the low down, she checked her ears, said "nothing too exciting is going on here." Really? Because she starts to cry if I even touch this ear. Nope, a little drainage, but that's normal with her green nose. With a fever that high, this doctor thought it could possibly be a bladder infection. Because London has MCAD, I have to treat any kind of infection really seriously. So I subjected my poor little daughter to a catheter in order to get a urine sample, but the assistant (who I swear didn't know what she was doing) just seemed to torture my daughter as she writhed in pain only to say she couldn't get anything. I was told to go run some errands and then come back and they would do it again. Uh...no thank you.
So, after ANOTHER sleepless night, Motrin and Tylenol every four hours, her "not too exciting" ears had it and her eardrum ruptured. Awesome! I didn't even realize it because I trusted what I heard a mere 24 hours prior. I thought that that nasty goop on her ear (sorry!) was just her green nose getting in her ear as she slept. It took my sister noticing it at Easter dinner and realizing it looked an awful lot like Calvin's ears (which have tubes) when he has an ear infection.
So that's when the Mama Bear started to get pretty mad. I was first in line to see MY doctor this morning. He came in asked how I was, saw my face, and sat down to hear me out. I really like my doctor and I trust him and he explained that it really is possible to go from clear ears to a ruptured ear drum within 24 hours. Really? After some good PR skills by my doc, I left feeling somewhat better with a presciption in hand. And just for the record, I WILL NOT be paying for that catheter, thank you. Here's to hoping I get more that 2 hours of sleep!
Happy Easter to you too!
Any doctors or medical professionals out there, I'd love a second opinion.
it wasn't Kami again was it? I haven't really liked any of the women doctors at that practice. whats the deal I love all the men. Poor litte London... poor little you.
ReplyDeletePOOR LONDON! That is terrible! I'm with melissa, never liked any of the girls there. Hope she's doing better now!
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry to hear that. It's so hard when little ones can't tell you what's going on. Hope you are all feeling better soon.
ReplyDeleteOh, that last post was from Katie, just using Max's computer.
ReplyDeletePoor Girl! I hope she is feeling better and that mama bear is getting some zzz's :)
ReplyDeletePoor little London! Its a little more stressful dealing with sickness with MCAD. (I think...I guess I wouldn't know any different) Hope she feels better soon!
