Just A Simple Bribe

***Warning: Potty Story*****Words like pee, potty, & panties may be used multiple times.

So over the past week or so, Addy's super stardom of potty training has digressed to at least one accident a day. Luckily, she still rocks the #2 category. So yesterday, I had it. I think she just decided that it's way easier to be lazy, not have to leave toys, or a show, or food, etc. to go sit on that dang potty, so instead, I'll just go in my pants.

Seriously, 5 ACCIDENTS!

In fact, I don't think she went in the actual toilet even once! 3 pair of pants. 5 pair of panties. And a big pile of laundrey on my floor that was completely finished the day before! I stopped putting more pants on her because I was so sick of her peeing in them. She got to the point where she would stand on the kitchen floor with her legs spread and just go!?!?! And that would be 2 minutes after I had just asked her if she needed to go! That was the last straw.

So, I was about to blog about this situation asking for advice. I'm sure none of your perfect-potty-going children would ever do such a thing and you are probably reading this with a look of disgust on your face, but nonetheless, she is my child and I do love her, but I have failed miserably somewhere for her to digress to such behaviors.

Well, leave all the advice you want, I figured this one out on my own.

We had a few of those fun-size Milky Ways in our pantry.

(Okay, we didn't just happen to have them, I may have sent Jonathan to the store the night before to get me some chocolate, but I'm not sure.)

Anyway, this morning, I opened one up and set it on a plate and cut it into 6 little pieces. I showed her and told her that if she went to the bathroom in her potty and not in her panties, AND washed her hands (she's been fighting me tooth and nail on that one too..I even have foaming hand sanitizer by the sink, no water needed...I know, I know....judge away...she lets her daughter just pee on her kitchen floor and then she doesn't even wash her hands?!?! Don't worry, I've got DCFS on speed dial, I'll turn myself in) then she would get a little treat.

So, what does Addy immediately do? Drops her toy and goes to the bathroom where she did her business AND washed her hands.

Well, as of 7:15 Sunday evening, Addy is currently in her bed, we have given her 8 little slices of Milky Way throughout the day, and I don't have even one extra pair of urine-soaked panties on my laundrey room floor.

I just love the power of sugar! (Who's a dietitian?)

Addy-isms

I've really been enjoying Addy a lot lately. She still has her moments, believe me, but for the most part, she just talks and sings and talks and sings and talks and keeps us laughing.

Addy with her cousin Calvin, whom she lovingly calls "Cowboy." He is so laid back that he goes along with whatever she wants, i.e. "Hey Cowboy, wear this lovely girly flower beach hat and my Mom's shoes while I wear my yeehah hat and my Mom's crocs, then raise your arms up in the air while my Dad takes a picture." Then by looking at this picture, she thinks to herself, "Sucker!"

This was the day it was like 70 degrees. She insisted on wearing all of the choices viewed here...hat, glasses, and long sleeved, hooded shirt. No wonder we got so many weird looks at the store.

Hey, at least she wasn't wearing Superman pajamas with a cape all day.

So some of the funny things Addy has been saying and doing lately:

  • Holy crap. (I honestly don't think I say this, so I'm not sure where she picked it up...Dora perhaps?)
  • Let's go to the colored slides. (Not the green slide by our house, but the red, blue, and yellow ones by the junior high)
  • Oooo, spooky. (Said anytime she enters a dark room...think she got this from her haunted-house-loving-cousin Oliver)
  • She calls herself Addy-grul (girl)
  • When I'm pushing her on the swing, she asks for a "scary push."
  • I'm cold. Get under the cupboards. (covers)
  • She always has to have her blankies cover her toes, which is getting harder and harder the taller she grows.
  • I pushed the bundt! (button...said everytime she opens or closes the garage)
  • Scooch you? (said when needed to be scooted in while sitting on chair or barstool)

Mountain Biking in Moab

Jonathan, my brother Tyler, his brother-in-law Clark, uncle Jason, cousin Dallin, and a few others I don't know all headed out Friday night to Moab. They woke up early Saturday morning and started mountain biking the White Rim Trail. I think it's like 75 or 80 miles or something. They were planning on just driving home that night, but I think all of the wives were relieved when they decided to just stay over and drive back Sunday morning, especially because they didn't get off the trail until after 8 pm. (Maybe that was their plan the whole time, tell the wives we'll only be gone 1 night, but really it will be 2) Jonathan hasn't really been mountain biking since our first date almost 6 years ago, so he was in a bit of pain and plans on sticking to his road bike for the time being. :-)

They are standing on an arch

I told Jonathan that he could blog about his experience if he wanted more detail for the record, so we'll see if he adds anything else. He probably won't because Tyler would make fun of him for "blogging."
So...Shelley, Lisa, & Jenni...when's the girls' trip?
*****
After reading my wife's blog on my recent White Rim moutain biking experience, I thought it was necessary to add a few of the lessons I learned from this trip.
1 - Trying to do this trail in one day without being on bike all winter is asinine :).
2 - I have a new found respect for older guys. Especially the gentlemen who rode ahead and got our cars and saved me from a long night in the desert, thank you.
3 - Jason Frampton may be old and a little pudgy, but he has endurance.
4 - Though I revere and trust the judgement of Jason and my brother-in-law, Tyler, I will deeply consider the next adventure they concoct.
Just kidding, I'd do again in a heart beat guys:).
5 - Having a little extra around the waist has its advantages.
And finally, Miki as much as I respect and appreciate the opinion of your brother. I am my own person and act according to my own ideas and desires - be what they may :).

I know I'm pregnant when...

1. I was cleaning my house with my ipod blaring in my ears and totally started crying while listening to It's America by Rodney Atkins. It's not even a sappy song...just feeling overwhelmingly patriotic.

2. I've been to the Distribution Center, not once, but now twice to get bigger unmentionables. That's a great feeling.

3. At the doctor appointment today, I weigh the same amount that I weighed the morning I delivered Addy. Awesome! Still have 8 weeks to go... I think you weight less in California because you are closer to sea level, right?

4. I have the blessing of getting a family picture at our Eberhardt shindig in Vegas in 3 weeks. Picture this: Almost 9 months pregnant wearing pink. Visions of cotton candy machines gone awry are dancing in my head. Chalk it up to posterity or something.

5. I can eat Sour Patch Kids by the handful...at least as long as my tongue and the roof of my mouth can handle it.

6. My nesting has kicked in; however, this time it's in the form of sanding and painting old furniture. Pictures are coming. I think I'm addicted to ksl.com classifieds...serious good deals.

7. It's official...I'm waddling.

True Story

Jonathan was coloring in a coloring book with Addy. Addy was coloring one page and Jonathan was meticulously coloring Big Bird on the other page. This is the conversation:
Addy: Daddy, color your page too?
Jonathan: No Addy, you can color your own page.
Me: Jonathan!
Jonathan: What? She CAN color her own page. I'm doing this one.
Addy: Daddy, color your page?
Jonathan: No Addy. This is Daddy's page.
Me: Jonathan!?!
(At this point, He only had Big Bird's head left to color)
Jonathan: What? She doesn't stay in the lines.
Me: (Silence as I realize what he just said, then I started laughing). Are you being serious right now? She's two.
Jonathan: I don't care, she can color her own page.
(Addy just takes over his page and Big Bird's head becomes a scribbled mess of blue)
Jonathan: See! That looks horrible!
Me: Seriously?!? Reminder....she's TWO!!
Jonathan: Well, she needs to learn that coloring like that just doesn't look good.
Who knew that Jonathan loved to color so much?!? Looks like I know what I'm getting him for Father's Day...his very own coloring book collection.
I don't think Addy was damaged too much because she has continued to color many more pages, out of the lines, with great confidence.

Happy 30th Birthday!

We had a great time putting together Jenni's 30th Surprise Party! Tyler called us (Lisa, Dani, and I) a few weeks before her birthday (impressive), knowing that he needed to do something big for her birthday, but being away half the week, he definitely needed help.
Lucky for me, I just ride the coattails of 2 party planner extraordinnaires, Dani & Lisa. Lisa took all the pictures, so I'm just going to refer you to Jenni's blog to see all the goods. Check out the amazing cake that Lisa made and all the cute decorations that Dani did.

Pure Bliss

This is my darling nephew Graham who lives in Hong Kong. I love this picture for 2 reasons.
1. Who knew a sucker could produce so much joy?
2. Despite coming from 2 white parents, he's looking rather Asian to me.
