President & Sister Eberhardt

No better time to start blogging again than with the present and move backwards.

These are my in-laws, John & Sandi.  They turned their mission papers in at the beginning of January requesting a CES mission in Denmark.  They had received a phone call from the senior missionary department asking them if they would be willing to learn Danish.  So, we kind of figured it was a done deal and we were anxiously awaiting the big white envelope with the call.

Then...they got a phone call from Elder Oak's office.  After an interview with him, they got a call to meet with President Uchtdorf.  They were told they wouldn't be going to Denmark at all, but that John would be called as a mission president to the newly-formed Salt Lake City East Mission.

This is one of only a few pilot programs they are trying out where they call the mission president from his own area to serve...a way to increase the number of missions without necessarily having to take on the great expense of a mission home, etc.

We are so excited for them and know they will be absolutely amazing!  With over 50 stakes and 230 missionaries in their mission, we know we won't be able to see them too often, but I'm excited for my kids to learn about service and missionary work firsthand from their example.

When London saw this picture she said, "Oh look!  They are trying to get married."  LOL.
Engagement picture...Mission President picture...guess it's all the same.
