Classic Addy

Let me preface this post by saying, I wasn't surprised.
I signed Addy up for swimming lessons. I was a little nervous about how it would go simply because of Addy's record when she's been in organized classes (i.e. freaking out at Kindermusik, freaking out at library storytime, not participating with the group at My Little Gym) but I thought swimming lessons would be different because she LOVES to swim. We got to the pool early on Monday so she could see the pool and watch other kids. There were 3 others in her class...her cousins...so I thought we had covered all the unknowns. Well, the time came for the 1/2 hour lesson and what did she do? Cried for 25 out of the 30 minutes. The teacher still took her for her "turn," but Addy wouldn't do anything...no blowing bubbles, no jumping off the side, no laying on her back...she just fake cried and then continued to fake cry with her head down on the step the rest of the time. (Sorry to all of you mothers--Jenni, Lisa, Dani, and all those I didn't know that I'm sure read my blog--who were hoping to enjoy a nice, quiet, half hour by the pool.)

The next day we went to my Grandma's pool. My Grandma has a diving board that's like three feet from the water and has a ginormous 2-story slide that goes into the pool. So my daughter, the one who cried during her whole swimming lesson, proceeded to do the following with no help from anyone.

Isn't this crazy? Seriously.
I was nursing London and looked up to see my daughter at the top of this slide!

No fear!
She's definitely not afraid of water, she just doesn't want to be told what to do and swimming lessons are someone telling her what to do. I'm sure if I told her to jump off the diving board or told her to go down the slide, her response would have been "NO!" Or the latest response, "NEVER!"
We went back to lessons on Wednesday and with bribes engrained in her head of time on the swings and suckers, she had a great cry-free lesson and actually did what the teacher said.
Can't wait until she's fifteen!

  1. What a brave little girl. She does love the water. Julie knows how to swim and I don't think she would be brave enough to go down that slide. Go Addy !

  3. Miki, I sure hope you remember me, but I am a stocker of your blog through Kelly Jones. Hope you don't mind. I get such a kick out of your posts. However, I am wondering how in the world you did Addy's adorable bedroom? How did you do those circles? Honestly, I most likely don't have the patience for something like that, but I just can't get over how cute it is. We recently moved, had our third baby, and would love to do something fun in the nursery. I know you're a busy mom yourself, but I'd LOVE to know how you did that. Please e-mail me when you can at melv8@juno.com. Oh, by the way this is Melissa Eyre Lombardo. Guess that would kind of help.

  5. I LOVe your Addy posts, they make me laugh so hard. She is a ball of fire and a cute one at that. She is more daring then me that's for sure.
