Addy's Latest

Remember when Addy would never look at the camera or ever smile?
She's become a little poser. She loves to tell me to "take a picture" and then tilt her head and pull a big cheeser.

So, a couple of funny Addy-isms:
I was singing the new song that Addy was learning in Primary, which I love. "I Know My Savior Lives" Addy says, "Mom, will you please stop making that noise?"
Addy was eating a bowl of Rice Krispies, not a cereal I normally buy, but just had leftovers from making an ice cream topping, so she was experiencing the "snap, crackle, pop" sound for the first time. After a little time had passed, she said, "Hey Mom, can you turn that bubbling back on?"
And Addy's latest obsession is letters. She loves learning about them, talking about them, watching shows about them, etc.
When we are in the car, Addy always askes, "Hey Mom, what starts with A?"
Then I go through all the "A" words (g-rated) that I can think of.
She will keep saying, "What else starts with A?"
until I say, "That's all I can think of." Then she moves on.
"What starts with B?" And we go on and on and on.
We can't just pick up where we left off the next time we get in the car, we have to start over everytime. So, I think we've made it to L, but haven't been any further. One time we were on G and I drove by the bank and said, "Oh Addy! Bank! that's another word that starts with B (yes, I really did get that excited to think of a new word that started with B)."
She couldn't just accept that and move on. Oh no.
We had to start ALL OVER again at A, and remember to say "bank" when we got to B.
(Isn't this how OCD starts? Should I be concerned?)

So, not only does she love to talk about letters, she also loves to write letters. (Thanks Super Why!) She loves to write them on paper or in the air.
Just today, London was in the tub and Addy had to use the potty, so I moved so I was sitting on the edge of the tub facing Addy on the potty. I had an "aerie" shirt on. Addy told me to point at each letter and she would write it. So, I pointed to the A, and she would write an A in the air. Next letter, E. She started doing an uppercase E and then realized that she was supposed to be doing a lowercase E, so she erased it with her hand in the air to start again. Made me laugh.
Reminded me of when I was on my mission in Japan and the Japanese would write various kanji on their hands, not with a pen or anything, just with their finger, and then show each other to clarify which particular meaning they were talking about. Random.

So, a couple of days ago, Addy came up to me holding this.

and said, "Mom, I wrote 'pig'!" Now, I know I'm her biased mother, but I'm pretty sure Harvard will be knocking at my door any minute. :-)
She had me come and sit by her and she would say, "Okay Mom, now let's spell dog." So, then I would tell her the letters and she would write them. Then she would sing under her breath, "Old MacDonald had a farm...and on that farm he had a...(thinking, thinking)...DUCK! Mom, how do you spell duck?" And on and on until she couldn't think of any more animals that Old MacDonald had on his farm.

We love our Addy!  Only 2 1/2 more years til Kindergarten.

  1. Isn't it fun when they want to learn. My kids love letters too. Lately Jonah has been really into numbers. He'll do these long (at least long in my opinion for a 5-year-old who is still in preschool) addition and subtraction problems like "Seven plus three minus five is five, right Mom?"

I love that Addy poses for photos now too. She's a cutie!
