A couple of months ago, Brittany, one of my counselors came up with this great idea to have a time machine for Primary where we could have visitors come from the scriptures or from other stories. We all loved the idea (the bishop may have thought we were crazy) and decided to execute. After a few get togethers with the ladies, some spray paint, a sewing machine, a cricut machine, a few cases of strep throat, a real effort with power tools and help from Summer's husband Travis, we turned a boring ol' freezer box into this beauty.
We called it a "Transporter: Testimonies Through Time"
The arrow points to the past, present, or future. Christmas lights on top of the box glow underneath spraypainted medicine cups. PVC pipe lever on the side the kids pull down to get the visitor out of the time machine. And the best idea (not mine), was those little storm globes underneath the writing at the top. The visitor inside the box squeezes them and they spin and light up.
Our time machine debuted with THREE visitors. Summer went all out. Those kids were SILENT. Ted Kendrick was an awesome blind man healed by Jesus (not sure why he's still wearing 3D glasses, but whatever)
Tami Kendrick was healed of her leprosy by Jesus.
Ted & Tami Kendrick and Jenni Emery...all three fit in that box...good thing they like each other and good thing they are such good sports! We're still not quite sure why Summer made Tami wear a gold turban, guess she was a really fashionable leper...from India?
The back of our time machine with the cute curtain. Summer hung a sharpie inside for all visitors to sign their names and who they come as. We're hoping it becomes the "it" thing around the ward.
"So...Sis. So-and-so, have you been in the time machine yet?"
"No, I wish! I keep asking them to let me dress up and act like someone from the past so I can write my name in that time machine, but they say the waiting list is like a year long or something."
We can dream, right?
That is SUCH a good idea! Don't be surprised if it spreads throughout the Church in primaries everywhere! I love it, and I love that you know the Gunn's! Summer's little sister (who incidentally shares your name :) was a roomie in college and is one of my bff's and all-time favorite people.
ReplyDeleteWow, you guys did an awesome job! And I'm sure it spices up Primary quite a bit :). They did one of these in my last ward, and they somehow put it in front of the door to the outside (I don't know if you guys have one of those) and propped that door open, so the guests used the box as more of a portal than a holding area. I just thought I'd throw that idea out. Yours is so cute, and I bet the kids love it!
ReplyDeleteIt is an honor to work under the one and only amazing Prez! Even if it means long nights and hot days working on a time machine! :-) Can't wait for the next big adventure!
ReplyDeleteit turned out so great! btw, I got the idea from someone else, so I shouldn't get the credit. I love it, and Summer, you did a great job the first time with it!
ReplyDeleteWOW, WHAT A GREAT IDEA! THOSE KIDS SURE ARE LUCKY.
ReplyDeleteSo, I was wondering what it takes to switch wards for a week, dress up like someone super important, climb in that thing and get a hold of the sharpie.......:)
ReplyDeleteSo fun! You gals are amazing!
What a great idea. So sad I missed it! I keep hearing about it; it must have made a spectacular impression!
ReplyDeleteThanks for letting me be part of the inaugural "voyage" of the time machine. I am sure you will have lots of people knocking on your door so they can have a turn too!
