Day 11: Game Drive & River Cruise

We started the morning with a 6:30am wake-up knock, so we were able to load up the Land Cruiser with our own personal guide Richard, and head out for the morning.  We started by the Zambezi River and saw the beautiful sunrise.

By the morning in the river, it was pretty quiet when it came to wildlife, but we were able to see a whole bunch of birds we don't have here in the Utah.

Water Buck, it sounds so much cooler coming out of Richard's mouth with his Zimbabwean accent.

We drove right up to the border where 4 countries meet...Zimbabwe, Zambia, Namibia, and Botswana.  This part of the river is used to ferry trucks all day long from Zimbabwe to Zambia.

Back in Zimbabwe

We started to move away from the river and a bit more inland.  Friendly Zimbabwean guards out patrolling for poachers.

The wilderness just went on and on and on

A couple of vultures, just waiting until it got a bit hotter to start circling for food.

Pumba and friend

Hey zebras, would you mind turning around so I can get a picture of all of you?

Yep, that's right, can you come just a little closer and all stand in a line?

Perfect!

This is a kudu, amazing ears.

Lots of impala, everywhere.  Kinda got sick of seeing them, they just weren't that exciting anymore.

Another kudu

(took this pic for my mother-in-law Sans)

We returned home to the lodge to a delicious brunch, a clean room, and all 10 days of dirty laundrey cleaned and folded.  I was in heaven.

We had a few hours to relax and take a nap before we headed out on our river cruise before dinner.

It was just Jonathan and I with our guide Richard.  He was so funny and knowledgeable about the area and all the animals.

As soon as we started to get close, they turned to leave.

Hippos

We watched the beautiful sunset on the Zambezi before we headed back to the lodge for dinner.

They had set up our own candlelit dinner on our porch since we told them we were celebrating our 10-year anniversary.

Love this guy!
