We used to have this.
And then we got really sick of paying way too much money each month for TV.
Dave Ramsey will do that to you.
So, when our 2-year contract was finally up in January, Jonathan called and cancelled our subscription, much to my dismay. After all, I am the one up at night with London...what was I going to do?
Well, my handyman husband installed an HD TV antenna in our attic, so we now had the classic channels I grew up with for free. I was okay with this. I was really sad to give up Project Runway on Bravo and a few others, but then I met hulu.com and life was good again. Addy had to give up Dora, but I was pretty excited about that. PBS rocks...and no commercials. I may actually make a donation the next time they are offering the full Anne of Green Gable series for a $100 donation or something.
The real problem was commercials in general. I was missing my DVR...big time! I actually watched one episode of American Idol live only to turn it off half way through because I couldn't stand all those blasted commercials.
Enter my friend, Kristin.
I remembered reading a post on her blog about her love for TiVo. After dropping our girls off at dance class one day, I asked her about her love and she proceeded to gush and give me all the details. You can buy a TiVo on ebay that has a lifetime membership, and then you NEVER have to pay for TV again. (TiVo, if you are reading this...you should be giving Kristin commission for her testimonials)
With Jonathan on board, we tried twice to get one on ebay only to be outbid in the last few seconds. So, a couple of weeks ago, we finally won the bid on ebay and my life has been great ever since.
We feel like we really are sticking it to THE MAN! Free TV baby!
Can't believe I'm blogging about this...
Kristin, see what you've done?

We didn't sign up for any tv when we moved and I've loved it. My husband is really a computer geek and has some system set up where our tv goes through our X-Box and computer so we are able to record and pause, etc. I have no idea how it works, I just know that it does! It's so great though! I think we do have to pay for XBox Live for an annual membership, but it's only something like $35 or so, so it's not bad, especially compared to how much we used to pay! Oy! It's so nice too because we watch far less tv and are much more selective about what we watch. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one this day and age with an antenna on my house!
